Matthew 28:17 (ESV)
And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.
Talk About It
Even after seeing Jesus alive, some of His friends still had questions or felt unsure. The word 'doubted' here means they hesitated or weren’t sure what to do next—not that they rejected Jesus! It’s amazing—they had followed Jesus for years and witnessed miracles, but still found believing hard sometimes. God didn’t get angry at them. Instead, Jesus kept loving, guiding, and helping them grow. Like the disciples, we can have moments when we worship God and still have questions in our hearts. Our journey of faith isn’t just one big leap—it’s lots of steps, sometimes with doubts in between. Jesus knows we will have questions, but He wants us to keep following Him and worshiping anyway. When we talk openly to God and to each other, and do what we know is right, our faith muscles grow stronger. We learn to love God more, even in times of doubt.
For Parents to Explain
Dear Jesus, thank You for loving us even when we have questions. Help us keep worshiping and trusting You as we grow. Amen.
Family Activities
Faith Step Stones
- Draw or tape paper “stepping stones” across the floor, each with a word: WORSHIP, QUESTION, TRUST, LOVE, DOUBT.
- Walk together from stone to stone, saying how each step can happen in our faith life.
- Discuss how doubts and worship can both happen as we follow Jesus.
- Pray, asking God to help you take the next step of faith—even when you have questions.
Grow Your Love
- Find a houseplant or use a picture of a plant that has outgrown its pot.
- Talk about how faith and love can outgrow what is comfortable, just like a plant needs new soil.
- Together, gently loosen the soil (or pretend), then “repot” the plant into a bigger container.
- As you water it, pray that God will help your love and faith to grow—even with doubts.
Family Prayer
Now let’s each share one question or worry with God, and thank Him for listening and helping us believe.
